DEATHPOINT

SINISTER

2013

METAL TO THE CORE

Deathpoint is a band which does Metalcore well, and in an increasingly crowded and very variable genre quality-wise that’s saying something these days. Deathpoint you see has the songs and that is what really matters at the end of the day.

Listening to ‘Sinister’ you’d never think it was difficult second album time, though listening to first track ‘For Your Eyes Only’ might lead you to mistakenly think the guys had mellowed some, almost wandering into FFDP territory. As the album progresses though, so does the heaviness. There’s still that great melody to offset the growls, but the power we felt on the debut album ‘Fixation’ is certainly still there.

On a solid album our picks of the bunch are ‘Remission’; the insanely heavy ‘Lost Haven’ and closer ‘Thirty Stiches’ which lets in a little light;  but it really is the heavier stuff where the band excel with ‘Condemned to Suffer’ almost up there with ‘Lost Haven’. On tracks like those you feel like the notes have been driven into you like nails.

Great musicianship, interesting lyrics and like we said killer songs might just rank this up with the best Metalcore releases of recent years.
