Black Rose Turn on the Night CD Review

BLACK ROSE

TURN ON THE NIGHT

DOOLITTLE GROUP

2013

Only nine tracks here but Black Rose, who have been around on the Swedish Hard Rock/Metal scene now since 1990 have perhaps produced their best to date. If you are a fan of bands like: Rainbow, Malmsteen, Pretty Maids, Talisman, Pink Cream 69, Europe and I’ll even throw in the Scorpions and Magnum into the mix; then this should be something that will appeal.

At places this record reminds you of the carefree rock days of the early eighties when melody ruled over riff and with songs like ‘Rise Again’ you certainly get a Rainbow vibe. The other side of the coin is the more riff-oriented  Maiden-like proto Metal of ‘Turn on the Night’. Both are equally enjoyable.
While the album, which for us peaks with the bombastic closing track ‘Our Wisdom’ won’t completely blow you away it bears up to repeated plays and we love it. It’s great to hear bands out there still flying the flag for what we always thought was some of the best rock of all time. Long live Black Rose.
