MODERN MELODIC MASTERPIECE

WHAT THEY SAY: The concept of A PERFECT DAY came about when Andrea Cantarelli - guitarist and co-founding member of the Italian Heavy Metal band Labyrinth – presented the new songs and riffs he was working on to his bandmate Roberto Tiranti. The musical direction was evidently different from what they have been developing on Labyrinth’s recent releases, more in line with Hard Rock rather than Power Metal.

Roberto immediately loved the music that Andrea played him and started to work on songs and melodies which during 2011 and 2012 brought life to the debut album which finally sees the light of day now on Frontiers Records.

WHAT WE SAY: One we missed last year is this gem from ‘A Perfect Day’ a great modern melodic rock record which is underpinned by some great tunes and some great vocals. Opening with the title track a muscular, energetic  mid tempo rocker that pretty much ticks all the boxes before exploding into a great chorus. This is clever stuff, not a slave to the genre and not afraid to take some of the finer elements of modern rock and pin them onto the perfectly healthy body of classic rock. It’s an album that sounds like it will bear the test of time and certainly stands up to repeated listening.

Aside from the title track our favourites include: the title track, the epic  ballad ‘Long Road to Ruin’ (a pretty brave mood three songs in) that really suits Tiranti’s vocals, the big rocker ‘Waiting on the edge’, and anthems like ‘Alone and Free’ and ‘Now and Forever’.

This really is a fine album that at times has you thinking of Alterbridge and at others Australian up-and-comers Ragdoll who are another three piece that make a huge sound. As this stands Another perfect Day is looking like a side project but that would be such a shame if we never got to see music of this quality in the live arena.
