A WAR YOU CANNOT WIN

2013

SOUND OF THE GUNS

All that Remains may have lost some of that heavy edge over the years but they seem to have really found their signature sound now and ‘A War You Cannot Win’ underlines that. What you get here is pretty much what we heard on ‘For We Are Many’ and while there are a few echoes of the past here and there this is a consistent album laden with riffs, melodic choruses and tinged with the sort of memorable breakdowns you might expect.

Our favourites to check out include aggressive opener ‘Down Thru The Ages’ with its killer solo and ear-splitting screams; the very accessible ‘Stand Up’ and the Power-ballad (yes Power-ballad) ‘What If I Was Nothing’.

A nice balance of Metal and Radio-pleasing singles, which hits the right balance.
