ALIVE AND KICKING AOR

The press release says exactly what you get here: “Swedish singer Angelica Rylin (The Murder of My Sweet) has decided to pursue her childhood dream and recorded an all Melodic Rock album affair! His Murder of My Sweet bandmate and partner in crime, Daniel Flores assisted her on the production for a superb final result. "I always wanted to record an album like this" says Angelica, "my childhood heroes were Robin Beck, Ann Wilson of Heart, Leigh Matty of Romeo's Daughter".

This is nice, light AOR with pop sensibilities, strong songs and great melodies all strung together with a great voice. Starting out with the best foot forward ‘Break My Heart’ the opening track is probably our favourite here, but there’s stiff competition throughout from songs like the mid-tempo ‘Nothing Else You Can Break’ and ‘You Will Never Win’..

With a few fast paced numbers before the gentler ‘Can’t Stop Love’ which ticks the ‘big ballad’ box it’s an album set up as you might expect and in that respect there are lots of similar offerings out there. What sets this aside really is the quality and execution of the songs.

‘Riding Out the Storm’ adds some passion to proceedings that maybe at times here are a little hidden in pitch perfect sweet vocals and very clean production. Don’t get me wrong it’s a fine album and worthy of any AOR collection and the album closes out strong with ‘Losers in Paradise’ which again attains that level of passion and is also up there with the best – another mid-tempo winner!

All in all a great album that bears repeated listens.
