RAGDOLL

SUMMER SLAM MUSIC FEST

WITH ABANDON EARTH, RAGING LINCOLNS and TRUCE

GRAND BOULEVARD TAVERN, JOONDALUP, PERTH

9 DECEMBER 2012

Ragdoll shot straight over from supporting their friend Chris Gibbs who was launching the new Graphic Fiction Heroes CD the other side of town to play the headlining slot at the Summer Slam Festival in Joondalup in front of what was largely a new audience to them.
As shows go, 2 in three hours is pretty impressive and the pack up at the Paddo and set up at The Boulevard might have seen a tired band take the stage in Perth’s northern suburbs, but it didn’t. If anything Ragdoll played an even better set (and of course a longer one) than they had done a couple of hours before, seemingly inspired by the fact that virtually everyone here was a prospective new fan.

No matter how many times you see Ragdoll there’s always that feeling that they want to better themselves each time, whether it’s a growing self-belief or the natural way of things for the guys is hard to tell: but the end result is always impressive. The band engage in a lot of banter with the crowd throughout the set and hit hard with staples like “Tell Me” and “Heaven Above” from the new EP alongside old favourites like “Foot to the Floor”.

On a night like this you can clearly tell that these guys are destined for bigger things and every time I see them I wonder if it will be the last on a bill like this. If you only check out one new band this year these should be the ones!
