DEVINE ELECTRIC

SWEET TEMPTATION EP

2012

DEVINE TEMPTATIONS

Just when you think it’s late in the year and you can’t possibly hear any more great music another high class locally produced EP wings your way.  We were big fans of Devine Electric’s last release and the good news for us all is that this latest offering ups to ante and further develops their sound.

Opening title track ‘Sweet Temptation’ is a strong start to what is a quite diverse set of three songs. It’s a low key Aussie rock number with a great chorus that quickly gets hard to forget and has stayed with me since the first spin. If this is a new twist to the Devine Electric sound (and we know it’s a tune that’s been around for a while in the live set) then it’s something we’d like to hear more of.

‘So Sexual’ is another beast all together – a paean to the Hollywood Strip and particularly sleazy with a quirky pre-chorus and blistering solo that takes you back to the late eighties in a glorious three and a half minutes.

The final selection ‘Don’t Feel Like Home’ has the feel of a later Gunners Illusion-era tune, all laid back and dirty with an Axl-like vocal particularly because of the phrasing. It’s our current favourite.
Three songs is never enough, but when it’s three songs of this quality its more than enough to get Devine Electric back on our radar and in contention for EP of the year.
