It seems that in The Eighties we heard a min blowing new band once every now and then, but with our population so dramatically increased, I seem to be finding amazing new music every few days.

One such outfit is THE DATE - an unpretentious Aussie hard blues rock with a scorching guitarist in Rob Susanto, and a killer rhythm section in David Moran and Mark Thomas (bass & drums respectively). In this classic power trio, Moran also handles the vocals, reminiscent of no-one more than the late, great Pete Wells (Rose Tattoo, Buffalo) laconic singing on his solo albums.

Susanto is blisteringly good throughout - there's elements of Hendrix, Stevie-Ray Vaughan, Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore, Brian Robertson and more in his sound, but it's all him playing, and it sounds pretty damned special.

One listen to the likes of Rob Bury, Driver To You, MPD To Me or Arc's In The Sky will leave you in no doubt that these guys have what it takes to grab your attention and keep it, and the likes of Bebe Sky are pure poetry.

With their second album due in October 2012 and a third already written, there seems to be no stopping THE DATE, and this reviewer can't wait to finally catch them live.
