NONPOINT
Miracle

By Lips McConague

I knew nothing about Nonpoint before this CD fell into my hands but for some reason I had a feeling I was gonna like it…and I do!

It kicks off with ‘Shadow’ which has a Dropkick Murphys feel but quickly finds its own identity and from here on its grooving beats and fat drop D riffs throughout.

Lead Vocalist Elias Soriano has a definite Chad Kroeger styled timber to his vocals, however he is not as ‘nice’ as Chad…and to me that’s a REALLY good thing.

‘Looking Away’ is a great song that had me winding back the clock to early Crue - something you might have heard on Shout at the Devil. It’s probably my second favorite song on the album. ‘Lucky 13’ and ‘Electricity’ are great rock songs and catchy as fuck but to me the shining light on the record is the hidden track at the end of the disc. This song (Not sure of the title) is fucking awesome. The vocals give Elias the chance to show his diversity, I love the guitar tone and the piano piece would make Faith No More proud. My only criticism is that I have to wait something like 5-10 minutes after the last song to hear it (there’s no fast forward on my car CD player).

The cover of Pantera’s ‘Five Minutes Alone’ is a nice surprise and a bit of fun but really offers nothing new and in my opinion, if they were going to have a hidden track this should have been it.

At the end of the day Nonpoint have produced a strong, rockin’ bunch of songs that, while not really breaking any new ground, would have any moshpit jumping and I thoroughly enjoyed crankin’ the fuck out of it.
