THE WISHERS
Hold Your Course EP
Self-released, 2010

By Shane Pinnegar

From his formative days with THE BOYS, through THE JACKALS and a myriad of other projects, the redoubtable Paul McCarthy has always been a shining light for putting the song first, and with his latest band THE WISHERS he has honed that to a fine art.

With a team of talented and hungry young guns behind him, including Luke Dux on lead guitar, “Hold Your Course” takes you on a journey that measures equal parts Australiana and Americana, with the storytelling and sweetness of Paul Kelly, Mick Thomas, Dylan, or The Stereophonics’ Kelly Jones.

‘Two Sisters In The Cellar’, the title track, and ‘Tearing Apart’ all impress, as does the tender and yearning ‘Spend My Time’ – and live they crackle with even more intensity and a touch more of a rocking edge (This EP was recorded ultra fast with very little rehearsal).

In short, it’s rootsy and folky – and we can't wait to hear more.
