SISTER

HATED

RELEASED 2011

The sleaze of early Crue with an injection of pissed-off punk and snarling razor blade, gargle-with-glass vocals. If that sounds like your sort of thing then Sister may be one for you: a band that doesn’t know the definition of subtle and place raise-your-fist and yell stomping anthems above everything else. It’s good but the downside it gets to a point where it all starts to sound the same.

I love the Sunset Strip sound as much as anyone but this is definitely the punkier side of the street, the hair may still be big on that side of the tracks but there is no variety here.

After hearing their demos over the last few years I really thought that Sister had something and to be honest they do. Tracks like ‘Spit On Me’ hint at a progression of sorts, it’s still punky pf course   and it’s big chorus rules but its got a little more substance to it than a lot of the tracks here.

I like the Metal of closer ‘Drag Me to the Grave’ that closes the CD and opener ‘Body Blow’ as well as the previously mentioned ‘Spit on Me’ but then aside from the ballad ‘Would You Love a Creature’ (which I kind of like though I wish it had licked off at the end) it’s all pretty much the same.

Now don’t get me wrong that is incredibly cool if this is your genre and I can see the feral punk, black leather, black eye-liner, black teased hair masses loving this.  The danger is I fear that there is nothing really in there for the casual listener.
