RISING WIND
Skydive Your Soul EP
2011

By Shane Pinnegar

These young Italian rockers follow up last year’s debut EP and a triumphant Rock 'N America appearance with this classy four track EP.

From opener ‘Goodbye’ it’s patently obvious that Rising Wind are a notch above the pack – this song roars out of the speakers like a formula one Ferrari, full of frenetic riffing, glorious vocals and an outstanding rhythm section – rock solid yet full of flourishes to provide colour to the palate.

‘Never Trust’ is slightly slower paced but just as intense, whilst the title track is an example of the band’s maturity as songwriters – they balance power and aggression with layers of melodic intensity expertly, and this song, whilst a slow burner in some respects, is arguably the best on the EP.

CD closer ‘The Last Man On Earth’ is the heaviest offering here, and starkly constrasts the serious subject matter with a little playfulness musically as they ride down a sonic path not dissimilar from Megadeth, juggling that with some almost jazzy breakdowns.

“Skydive Your Soul” is simply a great release from one of the most promising young bands around, the production is simply awesome, the songs heavy yet melodic, raw yet polished. I can’t imagine this not featuring in my best releases of the year roundup come December!
