Pistol Shot Gypsy
Smokin’, Drinkin’, Fightin’

By Shayne Bishop

Hailing out of Providence R.I, Pistol Shot Gypsy is the kind of band that has a huge future ahead of them.

This 5 piece group is made up of 4 childhood friends, Ian Haggerty on guitar, James Thompson on bass and backing vocals, Jeff Instasi on guitar and backing vocals and Stevie Raposa on drums and percussion, which gives them an instant edge in the chemistry department. Rounding out the line-up is their amazing vocalist Ron Travis. Ron has a diverse vocal range and a sound that is often akin to Maynard James Keenan, which will have any up and coming band turn green with envy.

The album is just as diverse as Travis’ vocals. Featuring balls out rock songs like Trainwreck, H Bomb Queen, Slave Yourself and the title track itself, Southern influenced pieces like Just My Luck and the awesome Midnight Rider, and what is essentially a ballad, albeit slightly more rocking than most ballads, in the form of Baby Come Back.

This band have all of the elements that make a successful career firmly in place, from the fantastic, emotion charged and very original lyrics to a driving rhythm section, superb riffs and solos and the impeccable vocals.

Every song on Smokin’, Drinkin’, Fightin’ has hit written all over it, and I look forward to hearing more from Pistol Shot Gypsy in the future.
