MARIACHI EL BRONX
II

By David Carruthers

I don't remember how I stumbled across this album as it's not something
I would normally listen to and the Bronx aren't a band I would normally
listen to either. Mariachi El Bronx is a side project for members of the
Cali' punk band The Bronx. As the name of the band suggests this is a
Mariachi album.
I've copped it a bit for liking this album by Bronx fans who don't like
it, that I like this album but would never listen to any of the Bronx
albums, but I don't really care, I like what I like for what it is not
because of who made it.
These guys really know what they are doing, I can't say I have really
ever listened to much Mariachi music so I could be wrong but to me this
album is spot on and you would never imagine that the guys who are
playing on this album actually play in a hardcore punk band.
'48 Roses' a song about a guy who has 4 lovers and is struggling with
dealing with having 4 lovers ,is a great song and a strong intro to the
album which gets you hooked by the end of the song and wanting to keep
listening to the album. 'Revolution Girls' and 'Norteno Lights' are two
other mentionable tracks from this album.
I can say that this album is definitely not for everyone, and if you had
have told me to listen to it I probably would have said no, but somehow
I stumbled across it and couldn't help myself from playing it over and
over again. I wonder how much other music there is out there that I've
been to stubborn to give a go which I may or may not stumble across in
the future and be pissed at myself for never giving it a go.
