LEADFINGER
We Make The Music
Impedance Records, 2011

By Shane Pinnegar
Leadfinger is Stewart Cunningham’s latest vehicle after stints with a clutch of punk and garage bands and shows him wistful for his adolescent and teen years.
‘Fourteen’ is a lovely piece of folk-rock longing for the innocence of youth, ‘Anthem For The Unimpressed’ is grunge and a half with a touch of Paul Westerberg, on ‘Come & Dance’ and ‘Eucalyptus Blues’ he goes all “Exile On Main Street”, ‘The Price You Pay’ has a strong Radio Birdman feel to it, and so on.
Repeated listens unlock the sweet heart of “We Make The Music”, and it’s your key to an age when songwriters wore their hearts on their sleeves through lyrics that told touching stories.
