‘Stay Down’ as an opener isn’t the sing-along pleaser you might expect; it’s a barrage of Motorhead-like intent. Can’t be bad, is the first thought that runs through my head and I find myself unconsciously reaching for a beer. Now that is a good reaction…

‘KISS tried to kill Me’ with it’s unusual lyrics about yes the band KISS trying to kill them (It wasn’t Ace thankfully) strides the highway between Airbourneville and Junkyardtown or somewhere like that at least. There’s also a hint of newer UK bands like Heaven’s Basement/Roadstar in their style and attitude, with a splash of glam and a trace of punk.

What do they sound really sound like?  Well there’s ‘cleaned-up’ Motorhead guitars; old school metal bass; Sweeter and clearer than expected vocals and solid tub-thumping all with a bluesier take on eighties rock.

In truth it’s a very good album with some great rock and roll. Two of the songs, the Stoner-Blues of ‘St. Peter’ and catchy ‘Just like a Woman’, are previously unreleased, but everything else here has been previously available on EPs. The great news is that those two chestnuts are about the best here proving let’s say that Black Spiders have a lot more webs up their sleeve…
