DAN CHANDLER OF EVANS BLUE
TALKS TO TODD FROM THE ROCKPIT
ToddStar: Let me thank you in advance for taking the time for The Rockpit. We really appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule for us. What can you tell us about the new album?
Dan Chandler: The new album is very honest and human. It’s filled with questions we’ve all asked at one time or another - either in our minds or out loud. I’m so excited about this record. It’s easily our best work so far.
ToddStar: What have you learned from previous recording experiences that you wanted to do again and what have you learned to avoid?
Dan Chandler: I think everyone finds ways to improve through experience. I think it’s subtle things that keep you constantly improving; adjusting to what you’ve noticed in prior recordings.
ToddStar: The single, “This Time It’s Different,” is a great song and seems to capture the essence of the last release, while also showing how cohesive you guys have become as a band. Was this a conscious effort, or is it the product of the writing process you guys use?
Dan Chandler: I think with every song we write, we grow. At least that’s the goal!
ToddStar: You have toured with some great bands in the past. If you had to pick a couple bands that you would WANT as tour mates, who would they be and why?
Dan Chandler: We have played several shows with Sevendust - we love those guys. Not only a fan of their music, but as people, they are some of the coolest guys around. Staind is another awesome group of guys. I would love that tour.
ToddStar: What would you be doing today if you weren’t in a touring rock band?
Dan Chandler: I would definitely still be in music in one way or another - writing/playing/producing.
ToddStar: If there was one piece of music in the history of time that you wish you were a part of (written it, sang on it, were in the room when it was recorded), what would it be? Why is that piece of music significant to you?
Dan Chandler: John Lennon, “Imagine” - just to be a fly on the wall during the writing of this song. Simply because it’s the greatest song ever written.
ToddStar: As we approach the holiday season, The Rockpit wants to know if you are on the Nice or Naughty List. If you made the nice list, what are you wanting underneath the tree this year?
Dan Chandler: I really want to take up snow boarding. Santa, if you read this…
ToddStar: What is the meaning of life?
Dan Chandler: I figured this out so many times before… after a bottle of Jager. Let me get back to you on that.
ToddStar: Thanks again for taking the time out and we look forward to Evans Blue rocking 2012 harder than ever before.
