SOULHEAVY

SELF TITLED

Bluesy hard rockers from Toronto kick out the jams on their debut self titled album which evokes the spirit of the best 70’s stadium rockers.  At times brutally heavy (‘Driver’), and at times adding a pinch of funk to the mix (‘Get Up!’), the music is always hard and driving by ex-Alchemy Chance guitarist PJ Palmer, vocalist Corey Gray, and the rock-solid rhythm duo of drummer Brian Gartley and bassist Ryan Doan.

They deftly incorporate some 80’s metal and 90’s grunge influences into the equation without ever compromising the classic rock sound of the band, Palmer’s guitar never misses a beat and Doan’s bass playing is very reminiscent of early Geezer Butler, perhaps by way of Kyuss.

All of the above are great influences to have but they don’t mean a goddamn if the songs aren’t up to scratch – fortunately each of the seven tunes on offer are great head shakers and ball breakers.  One listen to the instant classic ‘River Road’ – so catchy it sounds instantly familiar – is worth the price of admission alone, and this song took up residence in my mind from the first chorus and refuses to vacate the premises.

If you fancy a ballad, don’t bother knocking – there’s nothing for you here but all pounding, driving hard rock n’ roll, and above all else, “Soulheavy” is a great road album – it sounds like it was born on the road, and it will sound fantastic as you burn down the highway with the top down.

Buy it everywhere - Itunes, Amazon, Amazon mp3, Shockhound, LaLa, Emusic and PJ Palmer hints that "as for the Hardcopy - thats a BIG Secret! It will be revealed soon!". Stay tuned!!
