JASON & THE SCORCHERS

HALCYON TIMES

Released February 2010

The word on the streets is that “Halcyon Times” is this oft-overlooked band’s career best, and the good news for fans of their seamless blend of country, hard rock, punk energy, honky tonk and boogie is that for once the streets have got it right!

Opener ‘Moonshine Guy In a Sixpack World’ is an absolute stonker and definite future concert opener – no music fan could stand still listening to Werner Hodge’s hard rock dosey-doe guitar and Jason Ringenberg’s southern fried Dixie twang singing “… loves the Stones, hates The Doors, thinks The Beatles sing for girls…”.

There’s fourteen killer cuts in all – stompers like the aforementioned opener, ‘Mona Lee’ & ‘We’ve Got It Going On’ balance perfectly with more reflective country ballads (‘Beat on the Mountain’, ‘Mother of Greed’) and it’s this balance which has always set the band apart from (and above) the pack.

“Well I guess I always loved you better than the truth”, Ringenberg sings on the beautiful and wistfully rocking ‘The Days Of Wine & Roses’, and I think it’s my new favourite lyric.

The truth is that this album won’t cross them over to the big time, commercial radio world of millions of album sales, but I doubt they really care about all that shit. They are older, wiser, made up and making great music for it’s own sake – for the love of the music and the love of their fans. Jason & The Scorchers are at the top of their game and like the perfect ice cold beer on the longest, hottest summer’s day, it’s a sublime treat to have them back.
