DEVON ALLMAN'S HONEYTRIBE

SPACE AGE BLUES

Having never really been a fan of blues or blues-rock, I was a little in the dark when it came to the Allman Brothers Band. The most I ever knew about an Allman was that Gregg was married to Cher and had a son. So, I was able to listen to the new disc, "Space Age Blue" from Devon Allman's Honeytribe with no preconceived notion of what an Allman influenced album should sound like.

I have to admit; the first song really grabbed my attention and led me to listen to the rest of the CD. 'Could Get Dangerous' is a great track that infuses great rock and rhythm with the blues style music. I also really like Honeytribe's cover of 'Sir Duke' on this CD - very similar yet different in its own way. This CD isn't really my cup of tea, but there is no denying the musicianship of the band and the song writing on tracks like 'Salvation' and 'Warm in Wintertime.'

I wish I could rate this in pieces, cause the lead track would garner 5 stars with the rest of the CD getting anywhere from 3 to 4 based on the track and whether it moved me. Again, I am not a huge fan of this genre, so I challenge you… if you love blues and blues inspired rock, pick this one up and take it for a spin. I think you will enjoy it. If you like your music a little rougher with more of a metal or hard rock sound, you might want to skip this disc. If you are more open to different genres, preview them via iTunes, but definitely get the first track.
